Most people associate neurosurgery with brain surgery, but it encompasses much more.
It is the medical specialty that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of patients who have been injured or have diseases/disorders of the brain, spinal cord, and spinal column, as well as peripheral nerves throughout the body. Neurosurgical treatment treats both adult and juvenile patients. Depending on the nature of the damage or disease, a neurological surgeon may offer both surgery and non-surgical treatment.
