Colorectal (Intestinal) Cancer

The growth of cancer from the colon or rectum is referred to as colorectal cancer (CRC), sometimes known as bowel cancer, colon cancer, or rectal cancer (parts of the large intestine).

Blood in the stool, changes in bowel habits, weight loss, and exhaustion are some possible signs and symptoms.

Only a tiny percentage of colorectal cancer cases are caused by underlying genetic abnormalities; the majority are brought on by ageing and lifestyle choices.

Diet, obesity, smoking, and a lack of physical activity are risk factors. Foods like red meat, processed meat, and alcohol enhance the risk diet. Inflammatory bowel illness, which includes Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, is another risk factor.

Familial adenomatous polyposis and hereditary non-polyposis colon cancer are two examples of inherited genetic abnormalities that can cause colorectal cancer, though they account for fewer than 5% of cases. Usually a benign tumour, frequently in the shape of a polyp, it develops into a malignant tumour over time.
